From A Song Leader’s Diary

"Today I led singing at the Sunday morning assembly. We had a full house, but the people did not seem to be "in the mood" to sing. My opening song was a lively one, but the people did not sing with any sense of zeal or enthusiasm. I led a song with slow tempo, but it was supposed to have a majestic presence. The way we sang the song, it had a very sad presence. The other songs I led faced similar frustrations. I thought I was a good song leader until today, and now I wonder..."

The best song leaders have frustrating days. It is not easy for leaders to anticipate the mood of a congregation when planning for a service. If we had the ability to anticipate the church's mood, we might be better prepared for it. Leaders should study the long-term atmosphere of a church and learn to work with these larger considerations.
