The Gospel of John

The Gospel of John Is written, for the purpose of having faith in Jesus, The Christ. The miracles recorded in John's gospel attest to the power of God, through, His Son. Seven miracles in John show the power of Christ:

  1. The changing of water Into wine (2:1-11) -- Quality
  2. The healing of the Nobleman's Son (4:46-54) -- Space
  3. The Healing of the Impotent Man (5:1-9) -- Time
  4. The feeding of the five thousand (6:1-14) -- Quantity
  5. The walking on the water (6:16-21) -- Natural Law
  6. The healing of the blind man (9:1-12) -- Misfortune
  7. The raising of Lazarus (11: 1-46) -- Death (N.T. Survey, Tenney, p. 192)

FAITH IS MIGHTIER THAN FORCE

Over what does faith give victory? John said it overcomes the world. Opposition was great for those who lived the Christian life 2000 years ago. Swords, stones, imprisonment awaited those who confessed Jesus as the Christ. Their only defense was the "shield of faith", but they won the victory!

Force may kill people, but it cannot destroy principles. Faith is spiritual, force is material. The spiritual things will continue when all of the material things decay.

"Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says Jehovah of hosts" (Zech. 4:6).

There are other enemies that we may overcome by faith. The enemy of suffering. Modern medicine may not bring relief. Doctors may not have a cure--But there is therapy in faith in Jesus Christ. For ten years, the Dartmouth school of Medicine has been studying patients who have put their faith in God. Over the ten year span 80% of the patients who have overcome sufferings, have put their faith in God!

Come learn about the Great Physician, who can bring relief to any soul. The Independence Church of Christ meets at 401 S. 11th St. Bible Classes begin at 9:30 AM with Worship at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with us.

VICTORIES OF FAITH

The story is told of a young man, who went to college; while unpacking his clothes he took a large V from his suit case. He tacked this V on the inside of the door, where he could not fail to see it each time he left the room. Each time he started to class, he paused and looked at the V, then lifting his head a little higher he would go to class. For four long years he kept the sign on the door, until the day of graduation, of which this young man's name led all the rest. You see he was valedictorian of his class.

In recent years the V has become a symbol of victory. Everyone wants victory. The word is synonymous with success in any field. Whatever we undertake to do, we can be sure of opposition. If we succeed in anything that is worthwhile, we can say we have a victory.

The same can be said of our faith. Without faith, there could be no hope: without hope there is no urge to endeavor: without endeavor there is no victory.

"For whosoever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith" (1 John 5:4). Come learn about the victory that is found in Jesus Christ. The Independence Church of Christ meets at 401 S. 11th, and Bible classes begin at 9:30 AM with Worship at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with us.

"Semper Fidelis"

The words, "Semper Fidelis", are Latin, meaning, "Always Faithful." These words are the motto of The United States Marine Corps. The motto has a deep, rich tradition, which has been a part of The Corps since its beginning. In short, every Marine is to develop a bond for God, Country, and Corps. This can be seen by visiting the different grave sites of faithful Marines, who gave their lives for this country, and/or for a fellow Service member.

The same can be said of Christians. We too should carry the motto: "Semper Fidelis." This life is not about being perfect, or without some failures or short-comings in our lives. But this life should be lived in faithful service to our Lord, Jesus Christ! The New Testament teaches that a man does not have to live a perfect life, but a faithful life to Christ. Listen to Paul the apostle: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness. which the Lord, !he righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing" (2 Tim.4:7-8).

We at the Independence Church of Christ are seeking that faithful service to our Lord. We meet at 401 S. 11th. Our Bible Classes begin at 9:30AM and Worship is at 10:30 AM. Please come Worship with us.

"Peer Pressure"

We are hearing more and more about "peer pressure." Our children are facing issues of fife that many of us did not have to deal with in school. When we think of "peer pressure," we also think about role models. Who is your child's role model?

Let me introduce to you a young man that had to deal with "peer pressure." His name is Daniel. You can read about him in the Bible. Here are some of the things that Daniel was confronted with in his life: Wine or strong drink, peer pressure from the King, he was taken into captivity as a prisoner, also his name was changed to humiliate him. However, Daniel "made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's food or wine" (Daniel 1:8).

In short, one might say that Daniel withstood the fire. The record also states that Daniel and his friends "put their trust in Him" (Daniel 3:28).

The Independence Church of Christ is putting their trust in God. Come worship with us at 401 S. 11th St. Our Bible Classes meet at 9:30 AM with Worship at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with us.
