2 Timothy 3:16,17

The apostle Paul wrote: "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching. for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3:16,17).

The Bible is our authority for Worship, Salvation and how we are to live as Christians. The Bible is the place where answers can be found in our struggles on this earth. The Bible has weathered many battles and yet, it still endures.

The Independence Church of Christ will begin a series of lessons in January entitled: How We Got The Bible.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and learn how the Bible came to us, as we have It today. We meet at 401 S. 11th St. with Bible classes at 9:30 AM and Worship at 10:30 AM. See you Sunday.

Mark 13:31

Jesus said: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away" (Mark 13:3

  • . That statement was made almost two thousand years ago, and yet, what Jesus said is true! Today, we have His word in the Bible. The words of Christ will continue to endure because He said they would.

The Independence Church of Christ will begin a series of lessons in January entitled: How We Got The Bible.

We would encourage the community to come and be a part of these lessons, as we learn how the Bible has been preserved down through the ages.

We meet at 401 S. 11th St. Bible classes are at 9:30AM and Worship at 10:30 AM. We hope to see you Sunday.

    The Book of Acts

The book of Acts is the hub of The Bible. Consider what Acts teaches us:

    1. How to Become a Christian.
    2. The Evangelistic thrust of the early church.
    3. The spread of Christianity In the first century.
    4. The Beginning of the Christian era.

Come join us at the Independence Church of Christ as we study the book of Acts. We meet at 401 S. 11th st. Bible classes begin at 9:30AM with Worship at 10:30 AM.

We hope to see you Sunday!.

    The Bereans

The text reads In Acts 17:11: 'Now these were more nobleminded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so." Three things stick out in this verse:

    1. They had a readiness of mind to study.
    2. They examined the Scriptures for themselves.
    3. They let the Bible; not the preacher have the final word.

Are you willing to let God's Word be the final authority? We invite you to come and join us at the Independence Church of Christ. We meet at 401 S. 11th st.

    The Wise Builder

Of all things, we cannot afford to take foolish chances about our eternal salvation! There is but one way to make sure: Build your spiritual house on the solid rock of God's Word. Live by the Bible. Jesus said: "Therefore, whosoever hears these sayings of mine. and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock" Matthew 7:24,25).

Look to the word of God for assurance that you are on the right path. Safe guidance does not come from within us, but from the Bible. It is what we will be judged by, see John 12:48.

Come learn more about God and His Word at the Independence Church of Christ, 401 S. 11th St. Bible Classes begin at 9:30 AM and Worship is at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with us.

    Hope in God

If there is ever a time when hope is important, it is in the hour of death. Death is a certainty for us all. Only the time of death is uncertain. Some of us will be among those whose graves are decorated on Memorial Day next year. What hope do you have for after death?

"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after that the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).

The Bible is filled with precious promises for those "who die in the Lord" (Revelation 14:13). Death is not the end. The grave is not our goal. The first concern of the Independence Church of Christ is about your hope and ours. We want to go to heaven. We want to see you go to heaven. How about you?

"For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it" (Romans 8:24,25).

Come learn about "Hope in God" at the Independence Church of Christ, 401 S. 11th St. Our classes begin at 9:30 AM and Worship is at 10:30 AM. Come Worship with us.

    A DESCRIPTION OF HEAVEN

We can learn much from The Bible. In the vast pages of Scripture is a description of Heaven. We can read and learn three things about heaven.

First, Heaven is a Promise. This promise is for a prepared people who make their plans Now. "ln My Father's house are many dwelling places...for I go to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2).

Second, Heaven is Peaceful. There will be rest for the weary and heavy-laden. Think about it, my friend. This world as we know it will someday end. All the trials and heartaches that this life may bring you, will also end. However, the Soul that endures with Christ will one day enjoy that peaceful shore. "In Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation" (John 16:33).

Third, Heaven is Permanent. Where we spend eternity is determined by how we live today. Time as we know it will end. Eternity will exist forever and ever! Peter said of heaven: "an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you'( I Peter 1:4).

We at the Independence Church of Christ are seeking that place of rest through Christ and His Word. Will you join us? Our Bible Classes begin at 9:30 AM and our Worship is at 10:30 AM. We meet at 401 S. 11th, Independence.

    Come Worship with us.

    "The Fear of the Lord"

The Inspired writer Solomon wrote, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: Fools despise wisdom and instruction" (Proverbs 1:7). This one little verse is the key to understanding the Book of Proverbs. Furthermore, this one little verse is the key to understanding God!

If you are searching for meaning of life, or direction, or maybe even a husband or wife, look to The Bible for the answers of such questions. The Bible gives the answers. For example: In the first nine chapters of Proverbs one will find fifteen admonitions to the youth for guidance in everyday living. In addition, the person who is seeking a spouse to marry ought to consult The Bible for such answers to problems like: marriage, divorce, How to be a Husband, Wife, How to be a Father, Mother.

As has been said, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs 1:7).

We at the Independence Church of Christ are seeking the Lord's wisdom and instruction. Will you join us? We meet at 401 S. 11th. Bible Classes begin at 9:30 AM with Worship at 10:30 AM. Please come join us.

    How To Study The Bible?

The most asked question is: "How to study The Bible?" Does this sound familiar? A failure to understand The Bible correctly is the greatest cause of "Religious confusion" among people whether past or present.

When you study, remember and apply these rules for a correct interpretation of God's Word"

    1. The interpretation must be Lexical. One must know the meaning of words, their development historically, and their use in the passage under consideration. This can be acquired through the use of a good Bible Dictionary.
    2. Pay attention to Grammar. When reading The Bible: keeping in mind who is speaking and who is being addressed.
    3. Study Historically. This involves customs. manners, history etc. The commentaries are designed to assist the student in reconstruction of the historical setting.
    4. The Context must be considered in interpretation. It is a old saying: "A text, taken from its context, becomes a mere pretext."

The Independence Church of Christ invites you to come Worship with us. We meet at 401 S. 11th St. Bible Classes begin at 9:30 AM followed by Worship at 10:30 AM. Come Study with us.

      Beyond Our Understanding?

Is it possible for us to understand the Bible? Answer: We may never understand everything alluded to in the Scriptures. We don't need to. We can understand what the Bible tells us to believe and do. We can understand God's will by studying the Bible. For example. The Bereans: "searched the Scriptures daily. whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). They checked out everything with their own scriptures. This worked. It will work for you.

For the benefit of those who want some help in their search for God's truth, we give Scriptural references when we preach and encourage people to take notes and check out these things with their own Bible at home. In addition, we offer free Bible correspondence courses which do the same. There is no cost or obligation. Write to: Church of Christ, 401 S. 11th St., Independence, KS 67301. Come visit us.

      Understanding Your Bible

The Bible Is written for everybody to understand it alike. Yet, in our society why is it so hard for people to understand the Bible? If we are to understand the Bible (and we can), we first must understand the Divisions of History that God expects us to properly understand, so that the Bible will make sense to us today. They are:

The Patriarchal Age: Genesis chapter 1 to Exodus chapter 20. From creation to the giving of the law. During this period of history the emphasis is centered on One family--The one family is Abraham and his descendents. They consist of: Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.

The Jewish Age: Exodus 20 to Acts 2. From the giving of the law to the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. During this period of history the emphasis is centered on One Nation. The one nation is Israel.

The Christian Age: Arts 2 to Revelation 22. From the descent of the Holy Spirit to the death of the Apostle John. This is the Christian age which continues and will until the end of time. The emphasis of the Christian age is centered on One man, Jesus Christ (Heb. 1:2).

      Understanding Your New Testament

The New Testament has revealed that we are no longer under a tutor, that is the Old Testament (Gal.3:23-29) . However, it is right to read the Old Testament in order that we might learn from history (Rom.15:4).

Our New Testament begins with the book of Matthew. It ends with the book of Revelation, These twenty-seven books are divided into four natural divisions.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John describe the lifetime of Jesus. The events begin with His birth, and end with a description of His death. It is the purpose of these books to establish faith.

The second division-The Book of Acts of the Apostles. The book of Acts is a description of the establishment of the church. It contains the blueprints by which Christians are made. It is the purpose of Acts to produce Obedience.

The third division-The Epistles, Romans through Jude. These letters were written to people who were saved, teaching them how to live the Christian life. It is the purpose of the Epistles to teach Chrsitans how to live.

The last division--The book of Revelation- John saw the heavens open and viewed the things that the redeemed shall someday experience when they have gone home to God.

The Bible Is The Voice of God

"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world" (Hebrews 1:1,2).

The passage just quoted reveals several facts about the Bible:

    5. The Hebrew writer affirms the inspiration of both the Old & New Testaments.
    6. That "God has spoken."
    7. The prophets of the Old Testament were Inspired by God.
    8. The Old Testament would give way to the New Testament.
    9. The Bible is the voice of God.
