If America is to survive the twenty-first century, then the home and families must be strengthened. The home is a Divine Institution from God, for the procreation, preservation, and order of any people. The fact is many Americans have their priorities backwards. The key to healthy and strong families is: the Lord, family, then business! Here Is a list of some things we can do for our families.
First, Focus on the family and not things. The values of the family will outlast the material things that we buy. In addition, by focusing on the family, we enable our children to become functional adults by teaching them the things that they will need to survive in this world. A lack of parents' teaching is one of many reasons why our youth are in the condition that they are. The parents, not the children, must assume responsibility for the training of their children.
Secondly, families need a high degree of Commitment. When our children see in their parents that high degree of commitment, we send a strong message to them. We are telling them, "You have to keep on committing to each other every day, even when you don't like it sometimes" (Family, 5). Parents, invest in your marriage by committing to one another.
Third, if our families are to be strengthened, then we must have high ethical standards. Many families today live for here and now. Our children need to see in their parents the respect for God and His Word. Parents need to learn how to have self-respect and self-worth in themselves. When parents learn this, then they will be able to teach and pass on to their children the high degree of ethics that our society is lacking.
Finally, strong families have a strong faith rooted in God and His Word. Did you know that "regular church attenders live longer, reduce the incidence of heart attack[s], arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure and hypertension. Religious people are less likely to abuse alcohol and far less likely to use illicit drugs" (Ibid).
Remember, the Home is a Divine Institution of God.
