The Benton church of Christ conducts an AfterSchool Program Monday through Friday. Sixty students from Benton and South Marshall Elementary schools attend the program which is specifically designed for those children in the community who have two working parents.
Each day the children are taught a Bible story from My First Study Bible. The students learn Bible memory verses as well as the books of the Bible in order. Sword drills are also a favorite activity in which the children find a particular book of the Bible as quickly as possible.
A retired teacher volunteers to help the children with homework everyday. Activity time is provided for children who have completed their homework. A member of the church volunteers to provide and serve refreshments to the children. This AfterSchool program has proven to be one of the best and most exciting outreach programs ever attempted by the Benton church. Daily, we see children whose parents do not attend church anywhere learning memory verses and reciting the books of the Bible. The children receive thirty minutes of Bible study everyday. Even the children attending AfterSchool, whose parents attend the Benton church, receive much more Bible study time than those who only attend Bible classes on Sunday and Wednesday night. These young children are learning spiritual concepts about God and the church which will remain with them the rest of their lives.
